Correos de Costa Rica, in collaboration with the National Parks Foundation (FPN), presented the first issue of its new postal collection “Route to a half-century heritage,” a series that pays tribute to the natural wealth and conservation work in the country.
The collection will have five issues, highlighting the efforts of the FPN to protect Costa Rican wild areas.
“We know that their efforts transcend borders, so this postal collection will further strengthen the projection towards other regions, being a valuable reference for other countries of this tireless commitment to environmental protection. Thanks to their efforts, this ‘natural heritage’, as the name of the issue says, is the most valuable legacy that we will leave to future generations,” said Mauricio Rojas, general manager of Correos de Costa Rica.
The FPN complements its conservation work with environmental education and scientific research, involving the community in environmental protection through educational programs and awareness campaigns.
The first design in the series is inspired by Tortuguero National Park, an icon of biodiversity in the Costa Rican Caribbean, captured through a montage by photographer Eduardo Peraza.
The souvenir sheet shows the exuberant fauna and flora of the region, highlighting the importance of this natural space.
The postmark includes an illustration by Mauricio Flores Madrigal of the green basilisk (Basiliscus plumifrons), an emblematic species of the country's tropical humid ecosystems.
