About Universal Postal Union - 150th Anniversary

The Universal Postal Union (UPU) is an agency of the United Nations that coordinates postal policies among member nations and facilitates a uniform worldwide postal system. It comprises 192 member states, including Malta, and is headquartered in Switzerland. Any member country of the United Nations may become a member of the UPU. Established in 1874, the Universal Postal Union is the second oldest international organisation worldwide. It constitutes the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players and its main function is to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services. It fulfils an advisory, mediating and liaison role, and provides technical assistance where required. It sets the rules for international mail exchanges and makes recommendations to stimulate growth in mail, parcel and financial services volumes.

The UPU's theme for its 150th year of operation - "150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations" - recognises its past accomplishments and reinforces its commitment to serve all peoples for the decades to come.

MaltaPost p.l.c. commemorates the UPU 150th anniversary by issuing a special stamp, carrying a denomination of 1.91, in celebration of the Organisation's rich past, dedicated present, and promising future.
