About National Navy Sna Duguay-Trouin

On November 12, 2024, La Poste issued a block containing a stamp illustrated with the Duguay-Trouin nuclear attack submarine submerged.

Rough edges enhance this block, the submarine, boats and planes are printed with silver ink. A matte varnish is applied to the background of the block and the sea for the stamp.

Dive into the invisible, where discretion and power reign, and discover the Duguay-Trouin nuclear attack submarine!

On April 4, 2024, Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, Chief of Staff of the Navy, announced the admission to active service of this second jewel in a series of six “Suffren” class submarines: the Suffren, the Duguay-Trouin, the Tourville, the De Grasse, the Rubis and the Casabianca.

In recent months, the Duguay-Trouin has crossed seas and oceans, making history with a stopover in Fort-de-France in March 2024, a first for this type of submarine based in Toulon and now deployed in operations.

The French submarine forces include 3,300 sailors and 10 nuclear submarines: 6 nuclear attack submarines (SSNs) and 4 nuclear ballistic missile submarines (SNLEs). Each submarine is armed by two crews (blue and red) who take turns on board. Since 1972, the SNLEs have ensured the continuity of the French nuclear deterrence posture, while the SSNs play a crucial role in the operations of the French Navy.

An SSN is at once a hunter, a bodyguard and an intelligence agent, capable of carrying out a wide range of missions. Crisscrossing the seas and oceans, it participates in supporting oceanic deterrence, escorts valuable units such as the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, carries out anti-ship and anti-submarine missions, and can be a real mobile submarine base for special forces. The stamp issued honors the Duguay-Trouin sailing alongside the carrier battle group. The technical annotations give an educational scope to this souvenir sheet drawn in the pointillist style.
