On September 4, 2024, La Poste invites you to discover or rediscover, through this new edition spread over five years, exceptional stamps retracing the History of France told through philately.
Since the beginning of philately, the history of France has been a familiar and dear territory to collectors. All have engraved in their memory such a silhouette of a castle or such a famous portrait, jewel of their albums. This new series "The rich hours of the History of France" highlights a sharp selection of fifty engraved stamps marking five major historical periods.
FROM PREHISTORY TO THE YEAR 1000, IN TEN STAMPS
For this first edition, the events, places and also people who, each in their own way, laid the great milestones of the History of France will be honored: from the Paleolithic to our era, and without whom our country would not be as it is today.
This series Les Riches Heures de l’Histoire de France invites you to go back step by step through the chronological timeline of the history of France, but instead of key dates and other visual markers, you will find the emblematic stamps that commemorated the pivotal moments in the History of France.
From prehistory with the discovery of the Venus of Brassempouy, an incredible testimony to the craftsmanship of the men and women of the Paleolithic; to the year 1000 and the coronation of Sylvester II, the very first French pope; through the mythical Gallo-Roman works such as the Arc de Triomphe of Orange or the creation of the first post office on French territory by the Roman emperor Augustus; each stamp will transport you through these great moments in the History of France as if you were there.
