About 950 Year Anniversary of Admont Abbey

Admont Abbey is the oldest existing monastery in Styria, consecrated on September 29, 1074.

In the 17th century, the monastery's secondary school was founded, and the monastery complex was redesigned in the Baroque style. The magnificent abbey library, completed in 1776 and housing the world's largest monastic library hall, contains around 200,000 valuable works, including approximately 1,400 manuscripts and 1,000 early printed books. The abbey church, dedicated to Saint Blaise and rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style after a monastery fire in 1865, is part of this historic complex. The Benedictine monks of Admont Abbey, located at the entrance to the Gesäuse National Park, oversee 26 affiliated parishes and are involved in pastoral care or as teachers at the monastery's secondary school. The monastery also houses an art and a natural history museum, a Gothic museum, and a contemporary art museum.
