About Nino Bravo 1944-1973

In the symbiosis that can occur between music and philately, a new stamp is issued that aims to capture the essence of legendary Spanish singer Nino Bravo. This unique tribute, which features a record and the artist's distinctive signature as its main motif, invites us to immerse ourselves in the rich musical history he left as his legacy. It is said that one afternoon, when he was only 15 years old, Luis Manuel Ferri Llopis, the artist's real name, sang at the top of his lungs the song Libero by Domenico Modugno to the astonishment and satisfaction of those who were with him. In 1961 he formed the musical group Los Hispánicos with his friends Salvador Aranda and Félix Sánchez, with whom he participated in the Fiesta radio contest, where they reached the final and came in second place. Later he joined the group Los Superson with whom he achieved great success. After his military service, Miguel Siurán, announcer of the Valencian radio station Radio Popular and director of the magazine Mundo Musical, bet on him as an artist and was the one who baptized him as Nino Bravo. The official presentation was in March 1969 at the Teatro Principal in Valencia where he won over the audience from the first song. In early 1970 he participated in the II Festival de la Canción Española to select the Spanish representative for Eurovision. Although his song, Esa será mi casa got the great applause of the public, it was Julio Iglesias who won. The great success would come with Te quiero, te quiero with which he released his first LP. After that came other songs that confirmed him as the great singer he was, songs like Un beso y una flor or the one that is almost a hymn, Libre. It is 50 years since the fateful accident that took the life of that young man who sang about love and heartbreak. Philately, the art of collecting and studying stamps, has proven to be a unique window to culture, history and also to musical heritage. The issuance of stamps dedicated to emblematic musical figures, such as this tribute to Nino Bravo, highlights the importance of this form of artistic expression in the preservation and dissemination of the musical legacy.
