The American Convention on Human Rights, also known as the "Pact of San José, Costa Rica." It is an international treaty that was adopted on November 22, 1969, and it came into force on July 18, 1978. The American Convention on Human Rights is one of the principal human rights treaties in the Americas and is an important instrument for the promotion and protection of human rights in the region.

In 2019, the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the American Convention on Human Rights was commemorated. The Pact of San Jose, Costa Rica, established the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, both of which are key bodies responsible for overseeing and protecting human rights in the Americas.
