About Events - European Academy Day Of Philately

Romfilatelia, the specialized company in editing and trading Romanian postage stamps, releases, on the occasion of the 23rd Congress of the Universal Postal Union, a philatelic issue entitled “Events 2004”.

Designed by Octavian Penda, the three postage stamps represent a famous navigator and two great cartographers.

Octavian Penda looking as if he has just came from the Renaissance period, releases again this time a “small piece of jewel” joining harmoniously his painting as well as his engraver talent.

Amerigo Vespucci, born in 1454 in Florence, died in Seville in 1512. Discovering unknown places, Vespucci is the “father” of the discoverers of New World, named afterwards America.

Mercator (1512 - 1594) is the author of the projection that bears his name and it is used today for cartographic purposes.

Judocus Honius (1563 - 1612) is the famous dutch cartographer that published many atlases, maps and globes, using ancient maps and also the ones of Mercator.
