On the 2nd of June 2022, Latvijas Pasts releases a new stamp and a cover dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia. The new stamp and the cover have been designed by the artist Aleksejs Naumovs. The first day cancellation of the stamp is scheduled to take place in the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia at 2 Kandavas Street, Riga, from 10 AM to 4 PM on the 2nd of June 2022.
The face value of the new stamp is €1.20, and it corresponds to the postage of letter-post items weighing up to 20 grams in Latvia. The print run of the stamp is 100,000 copies. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 800 copies.
The stamp and the cover have been designed by the artist A. Naumovs, professor and former rector at the Art Academy of Latvia.
The Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia was founded in the spring of 1922 and is located at 2 Kandavas Street, Riga. The 15 hectares of the garden feature Latvian and world plants – a total of over 6,000 varieties, including rare species found in Latvia and around the globe. Live plant collections are not only used for scientific and educational purposes, but can be seen by anyone interested.
