The Museo del Greco is a state-owned museum dependent on the Ministry of Culture and Sports. It was created in 1910 and despite being conceived as the artist's home, today we know that he did not live here, although his work does live in this museum. The collection is made up of twenty works by the great Cretan artist and is the only museum in Spain dedicated to the figure of the painter. In addition, it includes paintings by other Mannerist and Baroque artists, sculptures, archaeological pieces, furniture, textiles and decorative objects of various kinds. The essential purpose of the Museum is to transmit and make the figure of El Greco understandable to society, as well as the influence of his work and personality in Toledo at the beginning of the 17th century.
