About Ministry of Religious Affairs, 160 Years

To mark the 160th anniversary of its existence, Romfilatelia introduces into circulation on Friday, January 21st, the postage stamps issue „Ministry of Religious Affairs, 160 years”. The issue consists of a stampon which is reproduced the image of the current headquarters of the State Secretariat for Religious Affairs, , a perforated souvenir sheet, whose image reproducesthe bronze bust of the ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza together with the architectural details of the institution’s head quarters and a First Day Cover, illustrating the building of the State Secretariat for Religious Affairs. Since its establishment and until the present day, this executive body has had different names, depending on the institutional articulation of the area of religions and other public policies: Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education (1867-1921), Ministry of Religious Affairs and Arts (1940-1945), Department of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs and State Secretariat for Religious Affairs The State Secretariat for Religious Affairs is a state institution that manages the relations between the state and religious organizations in Romania (18 recognized religious organizations, 42 recognized religious associations and countless associations and foundations which carry out religious activities, established according to the Government Ordinance No. 26/2000). The State Secretariat for Religious Affairs develops the partnership between central and local authorities and the religious organizations recognized by law in social, cultural and educational areas. In respect to that, the State Secretariat for Religious Affairs is ruled by the fundamental principle that religious organizations are free, autonomous and equal before the state authorities. Romfilatelia thanks the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the documentary and photographic support provided to the development of this postage stamps issue.
