The 44th Chess Olympiad was supposed to be held this year in Russia, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic it was postponed to 2021. As an alternative, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) decided that the Olympiad will be held online in 2020, for the first time in its history.
Interactive chess has long been recognized and widely practiced around the world. More than 16 million online games of chess are held daily. FIDE managed to bring this phenomenon to a higher level by organizing a worldwide competition through the Internet.
Chess players from 163 countries participate in the Online Olympiad which is organized on the chess.com platform. Among the participants there is also the national team of Kyrgyzstan, which includes 12 of the best chess players in the country
There is no doubt that the first world Online Olympiad will live forever in the annals of world chess history and will have a positive impact on the further development of this ancient intellectual game.
