2019 The International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements - Miniature Sheet for only GBP £4.23
The new issue of KEP stamps is dedicated to the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements.
In accordance with the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, the year 2019 was proclaimed the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements in honor of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Periodic Law by Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev. This resolution was adopted by the UN General Assembly on the recommendation of the UNESCO General Conference.
In 1869, the great Russian scientist, Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev, formulated the Periodic Law, graphically represented by him in the form of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. This law established a periodic dependence of the properties of elements on their atomic mass. Decades later, after discoveries in the field of nuclear structure, it became obvious that the properties of chemical elements periodically depend on their nuclear charge. Thus, Mendeleev was well ahead of his time.
The Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is one of the most important scientific achievements, reflecting the essential foundations of not only chemistry, but also physics, biology, and other disciplines. It is a unique tool that gives scientists the opportunity to predict the appearance and properties of elements on the Earth and in the Universe as a whole. The Periodic Table is sometimes called the "common language for science".
The KEP stamp was prepared in close cooperation with the International Organizing Committee for the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements. In this regard, we would like to express particular gratitude for the advisory assistance of Professor Natalia Pavlovna Tarasova, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Director of the Institute of Chemistry and Sustainable Development Problems of the Dmitry Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Ms. Tarasova is the past President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and co-chair of the International Organizing Committee for the United Nations International Year.
KEP hopes that the new issue will draw the attention of the general public in Kyrgyzstan and beyond its borders, to the fundamental importance of scientific knowledge in solving urgent tasks in order to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals in a wide variety of fields, including health, food security, energy and others.
