BRINDISI It was the Italian steamer from the same town and harbour. It was built in 1895 in Livorno. Its deadweight tonnage was 879 tons, its length was 59.50 meters, width 8.40 meters and its height was 5.80 meters. It had two masts with an auxiliary sail. Strength of the machine was 850 horsepower and its top speed was 11 knots. From the very beginning the steamer was followed by accidents. On Christmas Eve, 06 January 1916, it suffered its last accident and sank near the Albanian port of Medova. At the time of the accident the vessel was carrying Montenegrin volunteers from North America to fight in the Montenegrin battlefields, from Brindisi to Medova. On "Brindisi" there were 540 volunteers. 395 of them drowned, and 145 were rescued. According to its fate and misfortunes Montenegrin volunteers experienced on it, the vessel was named “Montenegrin Titanic”.Post of Montenegro in the edition named “Navigation 2011” publishes apposite edition of postage stamps, which contains a stamp and an Envelope on the first day.
