Although the whole area covering the foot of the mountain Prokletije is known for its abundance of water and springs, the Ali-Pasha’s Springs are considered the most beautiful and the most abundant of all. Situated only a kilometre away from Gusinje, at an altitude of 925 meters, these springs have for centuries been an indispensable part of human life in this area. Here the water springs from the earth over an area of over 300 square meters, giving 1 to 1.5 cubic meters of water per second during the driest summer months, and up to three times more in the spring. In the spring, the springs provide up to three times the amount of water which first spreads wide and then flows into the river Vruja. The springs were named after Ali-Pasha of Gusinje, a famous historical figure, who raised a house (čardak) near the spring, to be able to enjoy the beauty and freshness of its water. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp and a First Day envelope within the edition “Environmental Protection”. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
