The PTT Museum of Montenegro was founded and officially opened on 15 November 1959 in the building of the company PTT saobraćaj in Titograd. The ceremony was opened by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Đoko Dumović.Special credit for opening of the PTT Museum of Montenegro belongs to Marko Cvjetković, who was devoted and successfully worked on the realization of this idea. Modern and contemporary set-up of the PTT Museum was arranged by Nikola Gulan, Director of the Central PTT Museum in Belgrade, according to his own concept, and the assistants who worked on the set-up included Petar Žunjić, Vlado Leković and Slobodan Žarić, employees of the Montenegrin postal enterprise. Milica Latković was the first woman admitted to the postal service in Montenegro in 1914. The PTT Museum of Montenegro had three rooms in which they exposed exhibits. Morse’s apparatus was used for the first time in the world in 1844, and in 1869 the first telegraph lines were established in Montenegro. The techniques and exploitation of telegraphy in Montenegro was presented.The bilateral agreements through which Montenegro established and developed postal links with the neighbouring countries were also presented. Montenegro concluded the first postal convention with Austria-Hungary in 1871. Also, Montenegro was among the first countries to join the Universal Postal Union and was represented in all congresses and conferences. Later on, the PTT Museum of Montenegro became part of the National Museum of Montenegro in Cetinje as one of its departments. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp and a First Day envelope within the edition “Postage Stamp Day”. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
