About Maritime

The first Montenegrin long-cruise steamship flying the Montenegrin flag that sailed the waters from Odessa on the Black Sea, and even reached the port-cities of England, was a steamship named JAROSLAV. It was sailed by a Montenegrin Captain Andrija Djurkovic and 32 crew members. The steamship arrived in Montenegro in 1890 year as a gift of the Russian Emperor. JAROSLAV was built in America, and then it was conveyed to Russia, wherefrom it came to Montenegro. It was very luxuriously equipped with a large cabin, spacious Prince’s cabinet and saloon. It owned guest rooms as well as its own pharmacy. On several occasions, the ship served as the Prince’s yacht. The Post of Montenegro in its edition named "Se 2010” publishes appropriate edition of stamps, which contains one stamp and an Envelope on the first day. Author of the preliminary design is Marko Zogovic, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
