About 300 Years of the Battle of Carev Laz

BATTLE OF CAREV LAZ (17 JULY 1712) During the Russian-Turkish war, Montenegrin army, having accepted the invitation of the Russian Tsar Peter the Great to upraise against the Ottomans, clashed with the Turkish army that undertook a military campaign with the intent to punish Montenegro. The main battle took place at the site of Carev Laz. The Montenegrin army under the command of Bishop Danilo, the founder of the dynasty Petrović - Njegoš, provided a strong resistance to the Ottomans, inflicting substantial losses. According to tradition, despite the complete victory of the Montenegrins, the Turkish troops managed to arrive in Cetinje, and severely damage the newly built Monastery of Cetinje. Montenegro Post in its edition named "300 years from the Battle of Carev Laz" publishes the apposite edition of stamps containing one stamp and First Day Cover. Author of the preliminary design is Darko Vučković, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
