The Mountain Wreath is the most famous and significant work by Petar II Petrović Njegoš, one of the greatest works of European Romanticism, the crown jewel of Montenegrin literature and language. It was written in Cetinje during 1846 and printed in Vienna, in the printing house of the Mekhitarist Monastery in the first half of February 1847. The Mountain Wreath has been translated into almost all of the major world languages. The Post of Montenegro is publishing, within the edition Cultural Heritage The Mountain Wreath, a commemorative postage stamp and First Day Cover. The author of the design is Radovan Vukasović, a painter from Podgorica.

Thousand-year long history of Montenegrin statehood begins symbolically with the seal of Archon Peter, the first ruler of Duklja Slovenes mentioned in written sources. The name of Prince Vladimir (997-1016) is known from the history, legends and hagiographies of saints. Although he was not a sovereign head of state both in relation to Byzantium and in relation to the Samuil’s empire, Vladimir’s name and cult are extremely important for the history of Montenegrin statehood. The nephew of Prince Vladimir, Prince Stefan Vojislav (1016-1050), managed to win state sovereignty for his country, establish its independence from the Byzantine Empire and become the founder of the dynasty of Vojislavljević, which gave eleven Doclea-Zeta rulers, of which nine had royal title. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp entitled “1000 years of Montenegrin statehood” and a First Day envelope within the edition “Historical Heritage”. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
