About Flora and Fauna

Petteria rsmentecee (Sieber) Presl Laburnum (Petteria ramentacea) belongs to the family of deciduous shrubs of Papilionaceae. It is about three meters high; the leaves are composed of three leaflets; the flowers are yellow and in the shape of a butterfly. The first description of this plant was given in 1822 by the Austrian botanist F. W. Sieber on the basis of samples collected upwards of Risan in Boka kotorska (locus classicus). It represents the first described plant of Montenegro flora. It is widespread from the river Celina in Dalmatia, across Herzegovina to middle part of Albania and considered an Illyrian Balkan endemic plant. In Montenegro it prevails in the short sub-Mediterranean area, and during the flow- ering season it gives a distinctive colour to the scenery.

Viola nicolai Pantocsek Nikola's violet (Viola nicolai) is a perennial herbaceous plant from the family of Violaceae, with numerous stems 20-50 cm high; the flowers are violet, yellow in the middle, and it flourishes in July. The first description of this plant was given in 1873 by the Slovak-Hungarian botanist J. Pantocsek on the basis of samples collected in Perucica valley, in the foothill of the Komovi mountains (locus classicus). It was named in honour of Montenegrin sovereign Nikola Petrovic I. It is an endemic plant of south-eastern Dinaric Mountains, widespread in the moun- tain area of Javorje and Sinjajevina, across Bjelasica to Komovi and Jerinja glava.
