About 75 Years Since the Birth of Danilo Kiša

Danilo Kis was born in Subotica on 22 February 1935. He spent his early childhood in Novi Sad with his parents, his father Eduard Kis, a Hungarian Jew and his mother Milica Dragicevic, a Montenegrin. After his father had been taken to Auschwitz in 1944 Kis came to Cetinje with his mother, where he stayed until the end of his schooling. He finished the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade in 1958 year as the first student who graduated at the Department of General Literature. The last years of his life he spent as a professional writer, in Paris, where he died on 15 October 1989. The most important works of Danilo Kis are: Mansarda (1963), Psalam (Psalm) 44 (1963), Basta, pepeo (Garden, ashes) (1965), Rani jadi (Early Sorrows) (1970), Pescanik (Hourglass) (1972), Grobnica za Borisa Davidovica (A Tomb for Boris Davidovich) (1976), Enciklopedija mrtvih (The Encyclopedia of the Dead) (1983). He published two books of essays: Poetika (1972) and Cas Anatomije (The Anatomy Lesson) (1978). Montenegro Post on the occasion of the 75 years from the birth of one of the greatest writers from this region publishes the commemorative edition of post stamps . The edition contains one stamp and First Day Cover . Author of the conceptually design is Ana Pajovic, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
