Football club “Široki Brijeg is one of the most successful postwar clubs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.” It has been established in the spring of 1948 under the name Football club “Borak”, later changing its name to FC “Boksit” ,then into FC “Lištica”, and from 1957 it has been FC “Mladost”. Under the name FC “Mladost”, the club has experience the true affirmation. After the Homeland war and the pacification war thunder, the club has renewed its work and with the name FC “Mladost - Dubint” started in new established first league of Herzeg – Bosna. Since 1996 the club carries the name of today FC “Široki Brijeg”. Five times in a row it was a champion of Herzeg – Bosna (1994.,1994/95.,1995/96.,1996/97., and 1997/98.). From the season 2000./01. the club constantly competes in Premier league of B&H. It became the champion of league in 2003./04. and 2005./06. Three times in a row played in the finals of B&H Cup, and became the champion in 2006./07. by winning Slavija in finals. In summer 2002., for the first time FC “Široki Brijeg” appeared in the European club competition versus Slovakian Koba from Seneca. It placed into first round UEFA CUP, where it has been eliminated by Azerbaijan Neftchi and 2006./07. when in first pre-leg FC “Široki Brijeg” eliminated Belarusian Shakhtyor and in the second pre-leg was defeated by Scottish Hearts. In the UEFA CUP it has appeared in 2002./03. (VTJ Koba Senec, Sparta Prague), 2005./06. (Teuta, Zeta, Basel), 2007./08. (Koper, Hapoel Tel-Aviv) and 2008./09. (Partizan Tirana, Besiktas Istanbul). The Club won the first UEFA licence for playing in international games, because it has modern infrastructure, playing field in Pecara with all the support facilities, locker room, ambulance, stands with 7.000 chairs, lighting and electronically scoreboard and the Camp for the first team practice and the younger ages with two fields with the natural and one with artificial grass and support facilities in the Mostarsko blato. And younger ages recorded observed results. Junior category was twice champions of B&H and Cadets once. The Club is financial stable and by everything that has been done in the past 15 years is the most successful not only in B&H but also in the wider region. Since 2000. every winter club has organized traditional football tournament “Gojko Šušak” in which participate the best clubs from B&H, Croatia, Slovenia, and other European countries.
