World day of the Sick was founded by the Pope John Paul II. in 1992 to draw attention to the patients and their problems. He urged the whole world to seriously think through on what we call suffering and illness. It is celebrated every year on February 11th, on the commemoration of Our Lady of Lourdes and was celebrated for the first time in 1993. Health is the greatest asset, but many people aren’t aware of it until they lose it, and then follows every day and painstaking struggle with the disease. Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness of the needs of patients and provide them with better healthcare. An access to a quality healthcare service must be available to every ill person and everybody has the right to know what he or she is suffering from and to participate in decisions about its own health. World day of sick is also a day of thanksgiving to families, doctors, medical staff, volunteers and all those who care about patients with love. This day is also a reminder that we should visit the patients, talk to them and make their day even more beautiful because the nobility and kindness to the patients who suffer is the greatest expression of love for the neighbor.
