K. Donelaitis was born on January 1, 1714 in Lazdynėliai, in East Prussia. His parents were free peasants. After middle school of Konigsberg he studied theology in Konigsberg University (in 1736-170). From 1743 until his death (in 1780) he was pastor of Tolminkiemis. Four-part poem ""The Seasons"", written about the year 1765-1775, is considered the first Lithuanian literary work. From the early period of his work survived six fables, which are recognized as the first in the genre Lithuanian literature. K. Donelaitis creative legacy also includes poems in German, and the early poem ""The Seasons"" fragments. Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania officially announced Year 2014 – Year of K. Donelaitis. 300th anniversary of his birth included on the UNESCO list.
