About 100 years since the birth of Johnny Weissmuller

Johnny Weissmuller (Tarzan) was born on June 2nd 1904, in Freidorf, nearby Timisoara. He was an Olympic swimming champion, won five gold medals and set 67 world records. The athlete attended the Olympic Games held in Paris in 1924, and in 1928 in Amsterdam.

The story of Tarzan, son of an English nobleman abandoned in the jungle and raised by a group of monkeys, was created by the American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs. It was widespread around the world through dozens of movies and books. Johnny Weissmuller became famous around the world by playing the main character in the Tarzan movies. Many are those who watched his adventures, always accompanied by his famous yell! Johnny Weissmuller fascinated several generations of children and mature people with Tarzan’s adventures.

Johnny Weissmuller is the best known acting figure of the first action movies.
