About Budapest Water Summit

Both the stamp and the border illustration are decorated by graphic compositions depicting the diversity and versatility of water. The main motive, rippling blue water, is accompanied by various patterns referring to the diverse uses of water or the location of the Summit, such as the Margaret Island water tower, sailboats, a sweep well, the Széchenyi spa and the Chain Bridge. The miniature sheet, printed by the ANY Biztonsági Nyomda (ANY Security Printing Company) based on designs by graphic artist István Weisenburger, will be available from 4 October at major post offices and at Filaposta or can be ordered from Magyar Posta's Internet shop. The Budapest Water Summit is held in order to help stakeholders reach a consensus with regard to water and sanitation policy goals. Topics on the agenda of the Summit include: Striving for universal access to water and sanitation; Integrated water resources management for the 21st century; Good water governance; Green economy for blue water; Investment in and financing of the implementation of water and sanitation sustainable development goals. The Budapest Water Summit is linked to the events of the United Nations International Year of Water Cooperation, initiated by the UNESCO. Fresh water accounts for a mere 2% of the Earth's water resources. That scarce natural resource, however, is of crucial importance in all segments of life. As the collective result of the increasing needs of the population and the climate change, by 2030, competing water requirements are expected to result in a 40% scarcity of global water supply. As Europe and Hungary will also be involved in that process, access to water will increasingly become a fundamental issue of peace and prosperity on the level of both nations and individuals.
