About 90th Anniv. of the Croatian Radio & 60th Anniv. of the Croatian Television

In this year Croatian Radiotelevision marks 90 years of Croatian Radio and 60 years of Croatian Television. With words: „Hallo, hallo! This is Radio Zagreb!” on 15 May 1926 began the broadcasting of Radio Zagreb. At that time only 10 European and totally 15 states had a radio station. On the 30th anniversary of Radio Zagreb, in 1956, Television Zagreb began its broadcasting and in that same year realised also its first live broadcasting. From the very beginnings Croatian Radiotelevision was among the pioneers among public media services in this part of Europe and an esteemed partner within the European Broadcasting Union. As an independent public media service, it is obliged to inform the public on the work of state and public institutions and on all subjects of interest for the society, to treasure national identity, language and culture, to stimulate the development of civil society and democracy, to promote tolerance and respect of diversities, to encourage entrepreneurship and foster solidarity and humanity. These socially important tasks for the society Croatian Television and Radio fulfil daily with numerous educational, informative and entertaining programs for its audience.

Today, Croatian Television broadcasts 4 national TV programs, 3 national radio programs, 8 regional radio programs and the international program The Voice of Croatia. HRT program is accessible on teletext and at www.hrt.hr, and recently also through multimedia services of HRT. Within Croatian Television active are also Symphonic, Tamburitsa and Jazz Orchestras as well as the HRT Choir giving valuable contribution to the promotion of Croatian music culture at home and abroad. An important contribution to preserving Croatian identity and culture Croatian RTV provides also with its rich archive content, composed of 250 000 hours of audio-visual recording, 100 000 hours of radio recordings, 30 000 music recordings and 30 000 books.

With its work so far Croatian Radiotelevision has given a valuable and important contribution to the development of Croatian society and national culture and with equal commitment and responsibility continues to develop and advance its business, accommodate itself to new time and connect the audience by means of traditional and up/to/date multimedia platforms in order to ensure a continuous availability of public media content to the benefit and in interest of all Croatian citizens.
