About Fauna Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops Truncatus)

Bottlenose dolphins are a species of toothed whale and can be found in tropical, subtropical and temperate seas and oceans around the world.

They are typically grey in color, with a lighter shade on the underside. Adults can reach a length of 2.5 to 3.5 m and can weigh between 200 and 500 kg. Males are generally larger and heavier than females. They have a short snout and a single blowhole located on the top of their heads. Bottlenose dolphins live in groups, whose size can range from a few individuals to more than a hundred.

Bottlenose dolphins communicate using sounds – clicks and whistles – and they can also communicate in other ways, such as by slapping the sea surface with their tails and using body language. Each individual has a signature whistle that they use to identify themselves to each other. They are considered one of the most intelligent creatures in the world.

In Montenegro, they are regularly spotted in the open sea and in the Boka Bay, usually favouring waters with depths of less than 200 m.
