The rich cultural heritage, numerous cultural and historical monuments, long tradition and modern cultural tendencies combine in the unique ambiance of the city. This year, Trebinje will be awarded the title of European City of Sport, awarded by the European Association of Capitals and Cities of Sport (ACES Europe). This is a recognition for continuous efforts and significant investments in the development of sports in that city. ACES Europe is a non-profit organization based in Brussels. Since its establishment in 1999, ACES Europe has been striving to promote sports among all citizens, especially among vulnerable groups, children, the elderly and people with disabilities. Also, one of the goals of ACES Europe is to encourage the private and public sectors to support sports.
By receiving this title, Trebinje is recognized as a sports center, not only in the Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also in Europe, and thanks to this, it will have the opportunity to host numerous sports events and manifestations, which will contribute to even better promotion of sports. In addition to prestige, receiving the title of European City of Sports can further improve the conditions for practicing sports and the capacities of sports leaders and sports organizations.
