The Hungarian Paediatric Association is one of the most important paediatric scientific organisations in Hungary, which has served the health and well- being of children since its inaugural meeting on 14 December 1924. Over the past century, the Association has helped to preserve the health of some 15 million children, and, while the paediatric profession has developed a great deal, it is still guided today by the principles on which the Association was founded – science-based medicine, protecting children’s health, supporting families and bringing the paediatric community together.
For 100 years, the Hungarian Paediatric Association has served society, treating and caring for children, modernising professional and practical knowledge through a long series of innovations, sharing experiences and advancing science. In 2024, Dr Anikó Nagy, the Director General and Head Physician of the Heim Pál National Institute of Paediatrics, became chair of the Association, a post she will hold for the next four years. She considers priority tasks to be launching training and research programmes and new international projects, bringing knowledge and innovation acquired by Hungarian doctors abroad back to Hungary and establishing it here, and making this known to specialist practitioners throughout the country, because the challenges of the future require new approaches and continuous learning by paediatricians to enable them to scale the highest heights of medicine in their practice. For them, the child and caring for the child is the highest value, thus they strive to reach this goal with heart, soul and science.
The main element of the label of the stamp shows a baby during a medical examination. A ward from bygone times is featured on the commemorative first day cover. The imprint of the postmark on the cover bears the centenary logo and the motto of the centenary programme series “with heart, soul and science”.
