Philately and postage stamp, a collection that each year unites the member countries of the Postal Union of the Americas, Spain, and Portugal (UPAEP) who work under the same theme to design a new postal product. For this occasion, Correos de Costa Rica presented two souvenir sheets that represent this tradition that began 160 years ago with the production of the first stamps that circulated in our country.
One of them is dedicated to the centennial Central Post and Telegraph Building, which was recently decorated with the UNESCO Blue Shield, one of the highest protections granted to properties declared Cultural Heritage according to the 1954 Hague Convention, a recognition that protects the country's Philatelic Museum in that building. The illustration on the postage stamp corresponds to the artwork "Calle 2, Avenida 1" by artist Adrián Valenciano, created with pen and marker. The strip also features, in addition to the building's surroundings, a detail of the Blue Shield that was placed at the building's entrance. It was sponsored by the Costa Rican Red Cross. The second souvenir sheet features an illustration by artist Alex Núñez of a grandfather sharing his hobby of studying and collecting stamps with his granddaughter.
