Historical Ships - Lennuk
It was 6.45 p.m. on Saturday, 29 May. A blue-grey cover fell from the hull, revealing the proud name of the yacht. A bottle of champagne smashes against the ship’s hull, which was designed to withstand much tougher challenges on seas around the world
Between 16 October 1999 and 19 March 2001, the yacht Lennuk sailed 37,962 nautical miles – 70,306 km – on its journey around the world. In one year and five months, the yacht made one and three-quarter trips around the globe. For a large part of the population, a sailing yacht bearing a name from the national epic and flying the blue-black-white flag around the world symbolised liberty, giving thousands of people the opportunity to be part of the journey through modern communication channels.
Did you know that Lennuk was the first sailing ship under the Estonian flag to circumnavigate the world using only natural waterways? The journey around the world took the crew to a total of 49 ports, 25 islands, and 21 countries in 527 days.
