Hidden from view, among stone cliffs and fragrant pines, Rmanj Monastery rose six centuries ago - guardian of the soul of the Serbian people and witness to the age-old struggle for faith and freedom. Within its walls, the Rmanj monastery houses mysterious stories of the past, intertwined with tears and prayers, but also with courage and hope. Dedicated to St. Nikolay Mirlikiski, was built in 1443 and is attributed to the endowment of Katarina Brankovic - daughter of Djuradj Brankovic and wife of Urlich II of Celje.
The spiritual importance of the monastery is evidenced by the fact that from 1566 the seat of the Dabrobosna bishopric (metropolis) was located in Rmanj for more than a century. At the turn of the 16th to the 17th century, the Rmanj monastery had up to a hundred monks, as there are reliable historical testimonies. The most important metropolitan who ruled in Rmanj was Metropolitan Teodor, who founded the seminary in the Krka monastery in 1615. For 110 long years, Rmanj was the seat of the metropolitans of Dabro-Bosnia. An icon painting school also worked in the monastery, and sacred and liturgical books were copied there.
The stormy history of this climate, the three borders of Lika, Kordun and Banija, did not spare this place of worship either. Rmanj was destroyed and burned several times, mostly during war conflicts. Under the walls of this sanctuary, the presence of ancestors and burdened history can still be felt today. The people of Krajina fought and fought for truth and justice, freedom and peace, which is a Christian and human duty, and this monastery, which preserves the history and culture of the Serbian people from oblivion, is a witness.
