About Thematic Personalised Stamps 2024/2-3-4

Magyar Posta is continuing to issue thematic personalised stamps in 2024. Two stamps with a label featuring eminent Hungarian philatelists and a stamp of the Sárvár Arena are being issued in connection with the events of the 97th Stamp Day held in Sárvár. For each theme 12,250 copies of the stamp with a label designed by the graphic artist Imre Benedek were produced. These stamps may be purchased at Filaposta and www.posta.hu while stocks last.

EMINENT PHILATELISTS VIII • Gábor Voloncs was a passionate stamp collector since he was a schoolboy. He became a graphic designer and philately journalist, and between 1994 and 1998 he was the managing director of the National Federation of Hungarian Philatelists. His articles on philately covered both postal history and traditional collecting, dealing with classical and modern philatelic phenomena alike. He was the initiator and first editor of the specialist periodical Okmánybélyeg. From 1997 to 2012, he worked on the Hungarian postage and revenue stamp catalogue, adding long-missing local issues, imprinted stamps, the military post of the Dual Monarchy, and duty stamps for public documents, and municipal and metropolitan affairs. He also published in foreign journals such as News of Hungarian Philately and Brasovian Philatelic Studies. He was involved in training and supporting the next generation of stamp collectors. EMINENT PHILATELISTS IX • Gábor Visnyovszki began stamp collecting in childhood, and later was a philately journalist and editor. He was awarded the “Mérite Philatélique Européen” medal. Visnyovszki was a member of several philatelic societies, such as theNational Federation of Hungarian Philatelists, the Royal Philatelic Society of London and the European Academy of Philately. He was the founder of the Hungarian Society for Philatelic Research, then its president from 2002 to 2011 and later honorary president. He edited the handbook on Hungarian stamps A magyar bélyegek kézikönyve from 1982 to 1986. In 1996 he produced Bélyegkönyv (Stamp Book), one of the greatest works promoting Hungarian philately ever written. The book summarises the history of classical Hungarian stamps. Sárvár Arena • Sárvár Arena, which can accommodate up to 1,450 people, was completed in 2019, since when it has been the home of the Sárvár handball team playing in the second tier of the national championship. The complex, with a seating capacity of 608, is an ideal venue for sporting events such as football, basketball and karate tournaments, conferences and concerts, and also offers leisure and entertainment facilities fully meeting the requirements of the age with the 128-seat Kabos László Cinema, squash courts, fitness rooms and a bowling alley certified for top flight matches.

The thematic stamps with a label issued to mark the 97th Stamp Day honour eminent philatelists and the town hosting the event, Sárvár. On this occasion, the Eminent Philatelists series depicts Gábor Voloncs and Gábor Visnyovszki. The motif of the special postmark is comprised of portrait silhouettes. The thematic personalised stamp featuring Sárvár Arena depicts the exterior façade of the building, while the institution’s logo appears in the accompanying postmark.
