150th Anniversary Of The Birth Of Winston Churchill
About 150th Anniversary Of The Birth Of Winston Churchill
Born on 30 November 1874, Winston Churchill was descended from one of the great English aristocratic dynasties, the Dukes of Marlborough. As Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945, and then again from 1951 to 1955, he is known to history as the man whose iron will during the Second World War was crucial to the Allied victory over Hitler’s Germany. Throughout his extraordinarily long political career, he displayed considerable talents as an orator and diplomat. Churchill was also an accomplished artist. A gifted painter with a flair for writing, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953, for his war memoirs The Second World War. He died in London on 24 January 1965.
