The "Sailor's Day" professional holiday was established by the decree No. 565 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated June 19, 2014. Also, with the resolution of the International Maritime Organization dated December 20, 2011, a decision was made to celebrate "Seafarers' Day" on June 25 every year.
