Nature Protection - The Estuary of the Sutorina River

The river Sutorina, the largest water course in Herceg Novi, is about 9 kilometers long. It is a part of the Adriatic basin and flows into the bay of Herceg Novi.The area of the river basin belongs to the Mediterranean climate zone. The geological structure of the terrain in this area is made up of rock masses dating back to Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Paleogene and Quaternary ages.The deposits of mineral sediments of Sutorina and sea water, under the influence of a particular marine flora and fauna ecosystem, create Igalo peloid (mud), famous for its healing properties.The river and the full valorization of its potential are greatly threatened by the pollution in this area.
