KM Malta Airlines had its inaugural flight on Sunday 31st March 2024 with a return trip between Malta and Catania. The vision, ambition, and mandate of the new airline is to protect and enhance the connectivity of the Maltese Islands to Europe and beyond; to support the Islands' continued economic development, and to steadily grow into a successful and sustainable airline.
The airline has been granted an Air Operator Certificate and Air Operator Licence by the Maltese Civil Aviation Directorate. It will focus on key European destinations linking Malta to the main European cities airport hubs while also partnering with specific airlines. It shall operate a young single-type aircraft fleet consisting of eight Airbus 320neo, in a two-class configuration with a flexible Business Class cabin. These state-of-the-art, modern, fuel-efficient aircraft guarantee superior operating economics and better environmental performance with reduced CO2 emissions, per passenger, and lower noise pollution.
During the upcoming summer 2024 programme, KM Malta Airlines will operate an intense flying schedule serving 17 airports across 15 cities operating a total of 8,546 flights and offering 1,430,000 passenger seats. To commemorate the new national airline launch, MaltaPost is issuing a set of 3 stamps portraying images of the newly ordered Airbus 320neo. Each stamp carries a denomination of 1.50 and will be available from all post offices in Malta and Gozo from 19 April 2024.
