About 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Branko Filipovic Filo

Branko Filipović Filo, a Montenegrin painter, was born in Cetinje in 1924 and died in 1997 in Belgrade. He was one of our most expressive representatives of art informel and abstract art in general.After beginning his studies at the School of Art in Cetinje under Professor Petar Lubarda, he relocated to Herceg Novi, where he completed his studies at the aforementioned prestigious school of art under Professor Mirko Kujačić.He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade.

In addition to his formal studies, he attended a specialist course taught by Milo Milunović and an artistic fresco painting workshop with Professor Jaroslav Kratina. He had a large number of solo and group exhibitions in all significant centres around the world.He is the recipient of the “July Thirteenth Award”, Cetinje Art Salon’s “13th November” award, and numerous other important awards and recognitions. He received a posthumous “Petar Lubarda” award for his exceptional artistic work. He was a member of CANU – the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts.
