About Fine Arts from Liechtenstein

As part of our "Fine Arts from Liechtenstein" series, this year we are putting the spotlight on two artists and their life's work. The special stamps show images by "Hanni Schierscher" (face value: CHF 1.00) and "Evi Kliemand" (face value: CHF 1.20).

Evi Kliemand's (d.o.b. 1946) two-part work "Fragile Balance" was created in 2007 using the gouache technique on canvas in the format 180 x 210 cm. It highlights the fragile, endangered balance in all living things and the perception of it. The painter dedicates this special stamp to her father Alfons Kliemand, who "worked as a globally networked philatelist in Liechtenstein and contributed a great deal to the dissemination and research of Liechtenstein's postage stamps."

The image "Iris" by Hanni Schierscher (d.o.b. 1943) was created by means of natural self-printing using plant sap on handmade paper. Her work is characterised by the fact that she does not put a conceived motif on paper, but instead initiates processes that give form to the forces inherent in nature. She does not want to depict anything; her artistic works are part of natural processes and thus become translators between nature and the viewer.
