Éva Csepregi, an outstanding figure of Hungarian pop music, has celebrated her 70th birthday in 2023 and will give a lifetime achievement concert at Budapest’s Papp László Sport Arena on 6 January 2024. In honour of her work, Magyar Posta is issuing a thematic personalised stamp. Five thousand copies of the sheet of stamps with labels have been produced. These will be available for sale from 29 November 2023 at Filaposta and Magyar Posta’s online store while stocks last.
Éva Csepregi began studying music while still at primary school, where she learnt to play the piano and violin. She then went on to sing in the Children’s Choir of Hungarian Radio. Later, she studied popular music at the Studio of the National Centre for Popular Music, and in 1976 she passed the examinations of the two bodies overseeing the training of professional popular musicians at that time. Her career, uninterrupted to this day, started in 1972 when she appeared in a talent
contest on Hungarian Television as a member of the band Kócbabák. Later, as part of Neoton Família (aka Newton Family in English) and as a soloist, she became known and loved by audiences at home and abroad. Besides performing in Hungary, she has also received many invitations to sing abroad. In recent years she has given concerts in London, Romania, Slovakia, Australia, Florida, Canada, Sweden, New York, Arizona, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Seoul. Neoton’s and Éva’s solo albums abroad have been successful mainly in Spain, South Korea and Japan. Their biggest international success was the 1983 Yamaha Grand Prix International in Tokyo for their song Time Goes By.
In addition to her musical career, she has acted on stage and is the President of the Fényszóró (Spotlight) Cultural Foundation, which was founded in 1995 to help children with disabilities. Among numerous national and international prizes, Éva Csepregi was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary in 2023.
On 6 January 2024, she will give a lifetime achievement concert at the Papp László Budapest Sport Arena to celebrate her milestone birthday. Although Éva Csepregi has performed several times at the Sport Arena, this will be her first solo concert there. Many guests are invited to the popular singer’s evening, including the musicians from her current band, Stars of Neoton Família.
