The print run of the new stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Valmiera Theatre is 50,000 copies and the print run of the special cover is 500 copies. The face value of the stamp is €1.65, corresponding to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class up to 20 grams within Latvia. The visual design of the stamp features the renovated facade of Valmiera Theatre, symbolizing the end of a significant phase and the beginning of a new century.
Evita Ašeradena, Head of Valmiera Theatre: “The brand of Valmiera Theatre has been made up of fantastic personalities over the past 100 years, but this time we would like to showcase an ensemble whose major commandment is partnership. That’s why there is a house on the stamp; it doesn’t yet exist, but it will. A place where the most daring ideas may be implemented, a team that believes in and gives opportunities to the young, individuals who value making art and staying together over well-being and centrality. Because the foundations of the house are not always simply physical – it may also be that the rear stage with the spirits of the deceased holds it more firmly.” Andris Puriņš, Member of the Board at Latvijas Pasts: “Latvijas Pasts is truly pleased to wish Valmiera Theatre a happy hundredth anniversary with a special stamp – each stamp is like a unique story, allowing important events and values of this country to travel the world with every postal item sent. May the new centenary of Valmiera Theatre be even more creative and memorable!"
Valmiera Theatre was founded in 1923, with its inaugural performance on the 25th of November. Since its inception, when the then-young directors Oļģerts Kroders, Māra Ķimele, and Valentīns Maculēvičs worked here, Valmiera Theatre became an incubator of modern Latvian directing. Since then, interest in high-end experiments and contemporary theatrical forms has not abated in the theatre, along with attention to stage art in its most democratic manifestations. The theatre’s repertoire is based on modern interpretations of both foreign and Latvian classics and original dramatic art.
