One postage stamp depicts the American Pasqueflower (Pulsatilla patens), and the other - the Broad-leaved marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza majalis).
American Pasqueflower which probably few people have heard of, blooms in Lithuania in the months of April and May and is usually found only in the southeast of the country. These flowers grow in dry pine forests and dry forest sites, woodlands, sandy soils and on dry slopes.
All parts of the American Pasqueflover are poisonous, its juice can cause inflammation if it gets on the eyes, larger areas of the skin, or the mucous membrane of the mouth.
Broad-leaved marsh orchid, immortalized on another stamp, is one of the species of orchid that everyone has heard of. They are mostly found in nitrogen-deficient wetlands and are common in various countries in Europe and Central and Northern Asia. The flowering period of broad-leaved cuckoos in lower areas begins in May, and in higher areas - only at the end of July.
