Lithuanian Resorts - Druskininkai
Druskininkai is the oldest and largest year-round balneology, mud and climate therapy resort in Lithuania. The year 1794 is officially considered the date of establishment of Druskininkai as a resort. Then the Grand Duke of Lithuania and the King of Poland Stanislaus Augustus Poniatovskis granted Druskininkai the status of a healing area by decree.
The healing properties of Druskininkai mineral waters were studied and scientifically confirmed in the 19th century. in the first half. Soon after, the first clinics were built in the city, tennis courts and bowling alleys were installed. It is also interesting that one of the first photography salons opened its doors in Druskininkai on the territory of present-day Lithuania.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Druskininkai became a favorite summer vacation spot among the nobility and artistic people, where performances, concerts and dance evenings took place.
