About Events - Centenary of the Spanish Basketball Federation

The Spanish Basketball Federation celebrates its 100th anniversary on 31 July. Its century of history has been forged by thousands of protagonists (players, coaches, referees, managers, institutions and companies), whose memory is treasured in a unique Museum located in Alcobendas, Madrid.

Since its creation, the FEB has managed, directly or through its 19 Autonomous Federations, all Spanish basketball: national club competitions, Spanish Championships for training, training of coaches and referees and organisation of international events, and it is also the international representative of Spanish basketball both structurally and in the sporting development of the different National Teams of all categories.

The Men's National Team, which began competing in 1935, has won numerous medals and has reached the Centenary year as reigning World and European champions and No. 1 in the world ranking. For its part, the Women's National Team was launched in 1963 and, especially in the last decade, has experienced a golden era in which it has also reached the podium in all the major competitions.

In these 100 years, the National Teams have won a total of 168 medals, including 21 in the 3x3 format championships: 51 by the Absolute National Teams and 117 in training championships. Of these, 83 in men's categories, 84 in women's categories and 1 in mixed categories, divided into 57 golds, 61 silvers and 50 bronzes.

The men's National First Division League was born in 1957, has been managed directly by the ACB since 1983 and is considered to be the best national FIBA basketball league.

On reaching its centenary, the FEB brings together in its different leagues almost 250 teams from more than 150 cities and has almost 400,000 licences, more than a third of which correspond to women, which has made basketball the sport with the most women's licences in Spain.

The FEB is currently a modern, innovative federation, promoter and leader of numerous sporting, social and promotional projects, which has consolidated Spanish basketball as an extraordinary sporting and social benchmark.

Correos wanted to join in the centenary celebrations by issuing a stamp to pay tribute to all the people who have managed to promote basketball in Spain over the last 100 years.
