Novruz Holiday
About Novruz Holiday
Nowruz holiday is one of the oldest holidays in Azerbaijan. On March 21, when the day and night are equal, a number of peoples, including the Azeris, celebrated the arrival of spring and the awakening of nature as the beginning of the new year. These festivities are celebrated not only in Azerbaijan, but also in a number of eastern countries.
Novruz holiday was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2009, and in 2010, at the meeting of the 64th session of the UN General Assembly, March 21 was declared "International Nowruz Day". Currently, this holiday is celebrated in the same way.
