About Health and Wellbeing - HIV, UNDETECTABLE, UNTRANSMITTABLE

CESIDA is the State Coordinator of HIV and AIDS, the most representative entity of the citizen's movement of HIV and AIDS in Spain. CESIDA is made up of 75 entities representing more than 120 organisations in Spain. This year marks 20 years since its foundation in 2002, when more than 40 years have passed since the first case of HIV was detected.

Knowing what "Undetectable = Untransmissible" means is fundamental to end the stigma associated with HIV. "Undetectable = Untransmissible" means that a person with HIV on treatment and with suppressed viral load does not transmit HIV under any circumstances. This evidence is supported by UNAIDS and the scientific studies PARTNER 1 and 2.

In addition, Cesida wants to commemorate with this seal the celebration of the first Pride Positivo, a unique event in our country with which to make visible and defend the rights of the more than 150,000 people with HIV estimated to exist in Spain.

Visibilising is the Coordinadora's strategy in the face of the stigma generated since the appearance of HIV. A high percentage of the population says that they do not know any HIV-positive person. This is because many people with HIV do not talk about their status for fear of discrimination. As the study Beliefs and attitudes of the Spanish population towards people with HIV (2021) reveals, there has been a general improvement compared to the 2012 study, but still 10% of the people surveyed say they would not have a relationship with a person with HIV, and 36.3% of the Spanish population would feel uncomfortable if a partner of their child had HIV. With Pride+ we want, through cultural and educational activities, to claim people with HIV as an important part of society.
