Winter Light

Winter greetings are a perfect match for stamps that feature picturesque nature photography by Jukka Risikko. One of the stamps depicts frosty flowers at dawn in Alajoki, Lapua, and the other one a steaming winter landscape in Malkakoski, Seinäjoki at dusk.

“The overarching theme of the photos is the soft light of cold days glowing from the sun that barely climbs over the horizon, as well as snow and frost. At the time of taking both the photographs, the weather was really cold, approximately –20 degrees Celsius. We don’t see too much sunlight in the winter, but the sun shining just over the horizon on a cold day is magical at best. The colder the weather, the more beautiful the light especially at sunrise and sunset,” Risikko explains.

Winter Light will be issued as a 10-stamp sheet with two different domestic no-value indicator stamps designs.
