In 2021, 34,333 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in Spain in its different stages and there were more than 6,000 deaths due to this disease.
The survival rate exceeds 80%, but further research is needed to improve early detection methods and treatments.
Breast cancer patients face much more than the disease itself because 15% of them are extremely vulnerable economically and in the workplace, according to the report Financial Toxicity of Breast Cancer. In addition, a breast cancer patient has to assume direct expenses of €9,242 and a loss of income of €32,578 during the oncological process.
Breast cancer also has a psychological impact on women. According to the publication El Impacto del Cáncer en España, 45.1% of women diagnosed with cancer need specialized psychological care and, in addition, 41.6%, throughout their illness, will face a feeling of unwanted loneliness.
From the Spanish Association Against Cancer we continue to help reduce and alleviate, through our free services, the impact caused by breast cancer in the lives of cancer patients and their families.
