About Kaunas and Esch sur Alzette – Culture Capitals of Europa

Twelve years later, the title of European Capital of Culture returned to Lithuania - this time Kaunas, located at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers, is proud of it. The city is full of culture - from unique architecture to galleries and theaters. Kaunas has been preparing for this extraordinary event for more than five years. The Capital of Culture program, which combines festivals, exhibitions, performing arts events and concerts, is formed as a single dramatic work that gives meaning to the development path of the city and its citizens.

Esch-sur Alzette is the second largest city in Luxembourg. The steel industry is actively developing in the city - it is no coincidence that the city's huge steel foundries, which operated several decades ago, are considered to be a symbol of the city. The stoves themselves have been a tourist attraction for some time now - there is a museum and a panoramic view of the city from the roof. Part of the events at Esch-sur-Alzette as European Capital of Culture also take place here.

To mark these two European Capitals of Culture and stamps were issued. The works of the artists representing these cities were selected for their illustrations. One postage stamp depicts the painting “Bathing” by the Lithuanian artist Stasys Ušinskas, the other depicts the painting “Nemrod” by Foni Tissen from Luxembourg.
